1. Introduction

Flashcard Buddy ("we," "us," or "our") provides the Flashcard Buddy service. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the service.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

• Personal Information: Name and email address
• User Content: Content you upload to Flashcard Buddy
• Usage Data: Information on how you use Flashcard Buddy
• Payment Information: Processed through Stripe (subject to Stripe's privacy policy)
• Learner Profile Information: A first name or nickname, grade, learning context, account-management choice, consent record, and report preferences
• Max Live Lesson Data: Lesson topic, worksheet image, live audio sent to our AI provider, transcript, whiteboard, knowledge checks, usage time, and lesson summary

Max Live uses audio in real time to conduct the lesson. Flashcard Buddy does not save the audio recording. We save the transcript, whiteboard, usage record, and lesson summary so the account holder can review and manage the lesson.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide and maintain the Flashcard Buddy service
• Generate flashcards from your content
• Generate study materials from your flashcards
• Analyze usage patterns to improve our service
• Identify common subjects, courses, concepts, vocabulary, and learning needs
• Create deidentified, rewritten, aggregated, or combined flashcard decks, study guides, topic pages, examples, and other educational resources
• Market and promote Flashcard Buddy using deidentified excerpts, examples, and derivative materials
• Process payments and manage your account
• Provide live tutoring, enforce prepaid time limits, save lesson records, and send lesson summaries

We do not use your information to:

• Sell to third party data brokers
• Share with third parties for marketing purposes
• To develop, improve, or train generalized AI and/or ML models

4. Sharing of Your Information

We may share your information with:

• Third-party AI services located in the United States for flashcard generation and live tutoring
• Service providers that help us operate our business

We do not sell your personal information.

Educational resources and marketing materials derived from User Content may be made public. When repurposing private User Content, we will not intentionally publish your original private uploaded file, your account identity, or personal information associated with your account. Derived material may be rewritten, reorganized, aggregated, or combined with material from other users and sources.

5. Data Storage and Security

All data is stored in the United States. We implement security measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and at rest. We store some generated data for faster data retrieval, and for improving our service.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain data for as long as necessary to provide the Flashcard Buddy service and for legitimate business purposes, such as improving our service and maintaining user accounts. An account holder can delete a Max Live learner profile and its associated lessons. You can request deletion of your full account and related personal data by contacting us at support@flashcardbuddy.com. Deidentified, aggregated, or derivative educational materials that are no longer reasonably linked to your account may remain in use after account deletion.

7. Children and Parent-Managed Accounts

Students age 13 or older may manage their own Max Live account. A child under 13 must use a profile created by a parent, legal guardian, or authorized adult. A parent-managed profile does not require the child’s email address or an independent account. The parent manages consent, billing, reports, paired devices, and deletion. We do not ask for a child’s exact date of birth, school, teacher name, or full legal name to create a learner profile.

A parent can display a short-lived QR code that pairs a student tablet or phone with Max Live. The paired device receives a separate, revocable session. It can start lessons and view that learner’s lesson history, but it cannot access the parent’s account settings, billing, or reports.

8. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

• Track user sessions and service usage
• Monitor user behavior on our website
• Track errors and crashes
