Tips for Better Flashcards

Keep It Short

One concept per card. Short questions and concise answers work better for memory than long paragraphs.

Use Cardstock

Print on cardstock (65-110 lb) for cards that hold up to repeated handling. Regular paper works too if you laminate.

Color Code by Subject

Print on different colored paper or use colored pens for different subjects. Visual cues help you organize and recall.

Try Spaced Repetition

Sort cards into piles based on how well you know them. Review difficult cards more often than easy ones.

Flashcard Template FAQ

What size paper do I need?
All templates are designed for standard 8.5" x 11" (US Letter) paper. They also print well on A4 paper.
Can I write on both sides?
Yes. Write the question or term on the front of each card and the answer on the back. For double-sided printing, use our Double-Sided Flashcard Maker tool instead.
What is the best paper for flashcards?
Cardstock (65-110 lb weight) is ideal because it is thick enough to prevent show-through and holds up to repeated use. Regular printer paper works too, especially if you laminate the cards.
How many flashcards should I make?
Research suggests studying in batches of 20-30 cards at a time. Start with your most important material and add more cards as you master earlier ones.
Is there a faster way to make flashcards?
Yes. Our AI Flashcard Maker generates flashcards automatically from your notes, PDFs, or any text. It creates digital cards you can study online with spaced repetition.
